Remote Car Starter As A Gift

One of the most popular gifts we sell during the holidays is a Remote Car Starter.  They truly are a great gift that the recipient will be thankful for each time they get into a warm vehicle.    Buying a remote car starter as a gift can be difficult.   We hope to help make this process easy.

Buying a Remote Car Starter As A Gift

  1. Be sure to find out the exact year, make and model of the vehicle in question.  While most shops cannot give an exact quote without seeing the vehicle, having this information will at least allow them to get you in the ballpark.
  2. Never buy a Remote Car Starter over the counter in hopes of having your expert friend do the install.   On today’s advanced vehicles, the installation goes way beyond the skill level of most. You want it installed by an expert.
  3. Never buy a Remote Car Starter via mail order or over the internet.   The motivation to do this is usually price.  A remote starters is not a case where you want to trust your loved one’s vehicle to the lowest bidder.  If you find that the price to have it installed at a brick and mortar retailer is more than you planned, our recommendation is to buy them a different gift!
  4. Look around for the best reviewed and most respected shop.  If possible, visit them and make sure you get that warm, fuzzy feeling! If you do, then this is the store where you want to make your purchase as you want great customer service after the sale along with a quality installation.
  5. Always, Always, ALWAYS buy the system installed! That way that same person that sells the product and does the installation is accountable for the project. You eliminate the possibility of finger pointing and the blame game between the selling store and the installation shop. From our 20+ years of experience, there is never an exception to this rule.  You are buying the remote car starter as a gift.  You do not want to create headaches for your loved one!
  6. Consider buying a gift card instead of buying a specific remote car starter system. “You mean there is more than one option? I thought I just needed to buy a remote car starter?”  Many of the best stores sell many different units so they can be best matched to the person’s needs (Mobile Edge currently offers 14 models!). If you buy them  a gift card, they get to go into the store and pick out the system that best fits them. And if they go over the amount you spent on the gift card, they only have to pay the difference. This way, you stay in your budget and they get the system they truly want.
  7. If possible, go into the store you have picked. Spend 15 minutes with them. Get to know them. Do they truly seem like they know what they are doing? Ask them about the way they install the system? Does it sound professional? Do they have a clean, organized display to show you the different systems? Do you feel comfortable with them after talking with them? If you have said yes to these things, they are the store for you.
  8. (Shameless plug!)  Consider buying my e-Book, The Ultimate Remote Car Starter Buying Guide.  It goes into great detail of what to look for in a quality facility to get your remote starter installation.  It also lists many “Trusted Facilities” throughout the US which will serve as a starting point to many.  I offer a money back guarantee so you have zero risk.

Take a look at our post of the Top 5 Mistakes People Make When Buying a Remote Starter.  It too should help save you from costly buying decisions or even worse, some major headaches for a loved one.  We hope this has helped you.  Buying a remote car starter as a gift for that special person in your life is awesome!  Just be sure to follow our advice to make it a gift they will remember for a very long time.

A Bit of History

Five years ago in early November, Mobile Edge ran its first Coats For Kids drive. We made arrangements to have the coats distributed locally in Carbon and neighboring counties. We had hoped to collect a few dozen coats. Were we in for a surprise! By the end of January, we had collected close to 200 coats. We realized that we were on to something! In 2010 we ran the promotion again and collected nearly 300 coats. 2011-2013 had similar results.  In addition, we collected dozens of beanies, scarves and gloves.

What Is Coats For Kids?

As the owner of Mobile Edge for over 20 years, I’ve always said that I’ve never once sold something that people actually need!  I sell products that people WANT…. things that make them happy and things that make life more comfortable and convenient. One of the truest examples of this is remote car starters.

We sell a lot of remote car starters! Good economy or bad economy… It doesn’t matter.  It stands to reason that if someone cares that much about staying warn, they just might have some unneeded children’s coats or know someone who does.

We decided to tie these ideas together. Bring us a new or gently used child’s coat and we will give you up to $50 off of the cost of a new remote car starter! There is no catch. No hidden agenda. You have coats that can help disadvantaged children.  We have a means to distribute your coats to children who need them. We also have really great car starters that will keep you warm and comfortable all Winter long. Everybody wins! You save money and make some room in you closet. We get to make another happy customer and a child somewhere in our area will be warmer this Winter. Think about it… It make sense to me!

“But I Really Don’t Want A Remote Starter”

No problem. We will happily take all of your unwanted coats, beanies, gloves, and scarves and make sure they do some good. It might be 17 degrees out the day that you drop them off, but I promise you will leave our facility feeling all warm and fuzzy inside!

Help Us Reach Our Goal!

Our goal this year is a lofty one. We want to collect 500 coats. Plain and simple. So if you are reading this and in Carbon or surrounding counties, why not share this on Facebook and Twitter. We’re making it easy for you to make a difference in local children’s lives. Please, help us spread the word!

Making a Difference Across the Nation

One of the really exciting things that has happened as a result of our Coats For Kids campaign is watching other shops throughout the country implement the Coats For Kids program in their markets. Shops from Indiana, Virginia, Arizona, Maryland, Louisiana, Wisconsin,  and California (to mention a few) have  initiated their own local campaigns.  What was created here in Lehighton PA a few years back is keeping kids warm in cities and town all over the US!

So if you have a gently used child’s coat taking up space in your closet we can make sure that it goes to good use and makes a difference in a local child’s life.

Mobile Edge

(This is part 3 in a 3 part series celebrating our 20th Anniversary.  Part 1 can be found here.)

20 years ago today, I was spending my first full day as the proprietor of Schaffer’s Safe & Sound (now Mobile Edge).  The shop has seen a lot of ups and downs over the past 20 years.  From riding high to avoiding insolvency by just a few weeks. We’ve won the highest award in our industry and we earned the respect of our peers and clients.  I’ve been very fortunate to have surrounded myself with exceptional people over the past 20 years.  I wouldn’t trade a day of it.

The announcement

For 20 years, I have not “gone to work.”  I’ve gone to my shop.  I am passionate about Mobile Edge and likely always will be.  But the world keeps spinning and new opportunities present themselves.

Today marks the end of my daily involvement in Mobile Edge… How’s that for a bombshell!  Let me explain.

combining passionsCombining passions

If you’ve read the previous 2 installments leading up to this one, you know that I have another passion:  Helping small businesses grow through online marketing.  18 months ago, I quietly started another business, 1sixty8 media.  The purpose of this business originally was to work with other local businesses to improve and enhance their online presence.  I quickly found that my real niche lies in working with other mobile electronics retailers.  Imagine that.  Both of my passions rolled into one!

Business at 1sixty8 media has been nothing short of incredible.  I’ve found myself running out of hours and burning the candle at both ends.  While I love a challenge, something had to give.

Soul-searching

After much soul-searching, Bob and I have decided that it is time for him to step into my shoes and take over the operations of Mobile Edge.  This has been in the works for several months and is not something that I take for granted.  Mobile Edge is my baby.  I created it from nothing and with nothing.  To hand the responsibility of it over to Bob is a big deal for me….. A very big deal.

What about Bob?

Bob Kelly and Robby

Bob is a lifelong resident of the area.  He is engaged to Kelly Watkins and they have a beautiful son named Robby who will be 3 in December.  All of the kind things I’ve said about Bob as a coworker pale in comparison to Bob the dad.  Bob cherishes his time with his son and is always talking about the things they do together.  Robby is incredibly fortunate to have Bob and Kelly as parents.

I’m not going anywhere

To put any rumors or mis-information to rest before they happen:  I still own 100% of Mobile Edge.  I still have an office at Mobile Edge.  I will still be at the shop a couple of days a week. Clients can still communicate directly with me if there is ever a problem or, perhaps with a compliment about their experience with my guys!  My direct email address is mitch@mobileedgeonline.com.  Ultimately, the buck still stops with me.   But Bob is now “The Man.”  He is fully empowered to make the day-to-day decisions for the shop.

Moving forward

I was 23 when I started Mobile Edge.  At 43, it is time for something new.  My passion for Mobile Edge is strong, but I have capable hands in place to care for it and my constant attention is no longer needed.  Bob and Mike make a great team.  I am fully confident that they will run the show as I would want them to.

So if you have been part of this journey in any way: as a client, vendor, employee, or friend…. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  This is not the end.  Far from it.  We have big plans for the future of Mobile Edge….   I’m already writing the preface to our 40th anniversary post!

(This is part 2 in a 3 part series celebrating our 20th Anniversary.  Part 1 can be found here.)

For the first year, I ran the business by myself.  I handled sales, installs, bills, inventory… I did it all.  Looking back it was the best thing I could have done since it allowed me to get a firm understanding on how everything worked.

Mike Tarud

Mike and I at his 40th Birthday celebration earlier this year.

Employee #1 – Mike Tarud

After a year, I decided that it was time to hire an employee.  A fellow named Mike Tarud applied for the job.  He was a recent graduate of the Luzerne County Community College Mobile Electronics course and had a lot of knowledge and energy and passion for the business.   Mike became employee #1.  Mike worked with me for several years.  He was a guy who “paid attention” to the details.  When his family moved to York, PA, he went with them and got a job working for the, now defunct, Tweeter.  He worked his way up the ladder and was soon the manager of 17 stores in the Chicago region.  After Tweeter folded, Mike spent 6 weeks driving cross-country.  He currently lives in the atlantic City area with his beautiful wife Lori.   I am proud to call Mike one of my very best friends to this day.

The roller coaster ride that was cellular phones

As the store grew, we expanded into new categories.  Perhaps the most important was wireless communications.  My store offered pagers from the beginning and our customer base grew to nearly 2000 active customers.  We also got into the mobile phone business.  What began as Cellular One, later turned into AT&T.  By today’s standards, these phones are dinosaurs.  You couldn’t even send a text!  We soon ventured into Nextel and became the largest dealer of Nextel phones in all of Carbon county.  Unfortunately, that business died…. and when it did, it almost took Mobile Edge with it (I’ll get to that in a bit).

Dru Underwood

Dru was one of our very good installers a while back. He now is a successful musician and is living his dream!

Our pool of talent

Along the way, we employed a lot of talented people:  Brad Nevenglosky and Brian Peters both were both very valuable employees and managers and contributed a lot to our early successes.  Nick Brungard was a skilled installer who specialized in remote car starters. Bill Post was a great guy to work with and a very talented graphic designer.  Bill designed the Mobile Edge logo that we still use today.  Dru Underwood was also one of the very good installers who called Mobile Edge their home for a time.

In 2003, I made my most significant hire: Bob Mickonis.  Bob came to me with limited experience in the industry but a desire to learn and broaden his skills.  He was reliable and friendly and our clients loved working with Bob.

Window tinting is added

Bob Mickonis

Bob Mickonis started at the bottom rung and worked his way up to store manager…. and more…

A year or so after Bob was hired, and with a lot of prodding from Brian, we decided to get into window tinting.  I brought in a trainer and we spent 3 days learning the ins and outs of window tint. Bob was the only one with the talent to do the job right.  We hit the ground running with window tint and were booked solid in no time.  There was a strong market for window tint in the surround area.  And then Bob came to me with some bad news…

It seemed that he had another offer in an entirely different industry that would allow him to make much more money.  Something inside me clicked and said that I needed to do whatever was needed to keep this fellow on my team.  I made him an offer the HE couldn’t refuse and he was able to stay with me.  He moved up the ranks and became the installation manager for Mobile Edge.

Eclipse Retailer of the Year

Receiving the 2003 Eclipse Retailer of the Year from our friend Ray Windsor at the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas.

How we almost lost it all… but didn’t

2003-2005 were the very best years for Mobile Edge up until that point.  Mobile phone sales were strong and the car audio industry was chugging along.  Mobile Edge had over a dozen employees.  We had just been named the 2003 Eclipse Car Audio Retailer of the Year.  We were advertising like crazy.  We couldn’t go anywhere without someone mentioning one of our radio or TV ads. Everything seemed perfect.  But then 2006 happened.

The bottom fell out of the wireless phone market for small shops like mine.  We went from selling over 150 units a month to under 10.  This was financially devastating. Right on top of that, there was tremendous downsizing in the 12 volt industry.  Shops and vendors were closing their doors. Crazy things were happening.  Tweeter failed.  Circuit City failed. Regional chains all across the nation were folding up.  Mobile Edge sales declined almost 75% in a six month span.

I had just a couple of weeks of reserves before I’d need to pull the plug.  For the first and only time ever, I voluntarily laid people off.  We got out of unprofitable categories and expanded the categories that were in demand.  I cut out ALL of our traditional advertising.  We were truly on life support.

The Internet – Don’t fight it, embrace it

The biggest thing to help us survive was how we got the word out about Mobile Edge.  I had recently discovered online advertising.   There is no argument that the internet hurt small, local, retail stores.  But I learned that if you embraced technology instead of fighting it, you could compete and win in a bigger market.  So I built the early version of the website you are on now and started to write informative articles to let people know about what we did.  Surprisingly, people started to call and tell us that they found us online and that they liked what they saw.   We started getting clients from far away.  Business rebounded quickly for us, while most of our competitors were going out of business.

I soon became known within the mobile electronics industry for the work that I was doing online.  Other shop owners were calling me all the time asking for help with their marketing or their websites.  I spoke at industry conferences on the topic of online marketing.  Something was happening with this, but I just wasn’t sure what it was (More on this in part 3….)

A few things we are proud of

Retailer of the Year

Coats for Kids2008 was a great year for us.  Business was trending up again and we were named one of the top 12 retailers of our kind in the US.  We repeated this in 2009.  And then, in 2010, Mobile Edge… the little store in tiny Lehighton, PA…. was named the #1 retailer of it’s kind in the entire nation.  2011, 2012, and 2013 we were again among the top retailers.  We gained the support and respect of our peers and developed a tremendously talented network of friends in the industry.

Something else that we are very proud of at Mobile Edge is our annual Coats for Kids drive.  We started this in 2009 and to date we have collected well over 1500 children’s coats that are distributed in Carbon and surrounding counties.  To make this even more special, many other shops throughout the country have seen our success with this and started their own Coats For Kids programs in their markets.

Bob Mickonis was becoming increasingly important to our success.  He treated Mobile Edge like it was his own.  Our customers loved him.  While I can be quick to react, Bob is more thoughtful and level-headed.  I learned that Bob was a good balance for the shop (and for me).  We made a good team.  So a couple ago years ago, Bob was promoted to store manager.

John Kowanetz

Our good friend Jon Kowanetz and myself shortly after Jon won the Retailer of the Year Award.

Remodel and expansion into fabrication

I make it a habit to attend an annual conference in Dallas Texas.  At the 2012 conference, I sat in on a seminar presented by my friends Jon Kowanetz and Josh Landau,  I came home energized.  These fellows run some of the very best shops in the country and they have 2 of the best installation bays in the world.  After hearing what they had to say about running your install bay properly, I decided to renovate the entire bay.  Bob was on board with the plan.  We completely gutted our installation facility.  We installed all new EVERYTHING.  When we were done it was first-rate.  We installed a custom fabrication facility complete with everything that we need to fully customize the interior of a vehicle.   If you haven’t seen it yet, stop in!  We will be happy to show you around.

Michael Oechsner

Michael Oechsner is our installation and fabrication guru.

Mike completes the team

About 2 years ago, I hired Michael Oechsner.  He came to me with a lot of installation experience, but more importantly a true passion for the industry.    He quickly became a key person in our install bay.  I recently promoted him to Installation and Fabrication manager.  He is extremely creative and talented and cares about Mobile Edge and our future.

It became very clear to me that this was the very best staff that I’ve ever had.  Just a few months ago this was hammered home.  Both Bob and Mike were named 1 of the top 100 installers in North America.  There are only 2 installers on that list in all of PA and they both call Mobile Edge their home…..
The team was in place……..

Tomorrow we present part 3 in our series with a very special announcement.  It’s guaranteed to be the most shocking rose ceremony ever!

Mobile Edge Original Logo

The original design for the Schaffer’s Safe & Sound logo

20 years ago this Saturday, Schaffer’s Safe & Sound opened it’s door. The date was September 6, 1994. I haven’t shared many details of how this came about publicly before, but here it is… No holds barred… The successes and the failures… The good and the bad. Spread out in 3 articles over 3 days with a surprise on Saturday!

The VERY early years

My father, Carl, was an electronics repair man.  He was well-known throughout the area as the guy to take your radios, VCRs, CBs and tape decks too when they stopped working.  He would remove the radios from his customer’s cars, repair them and then reinstall them.  Unfortunately, in the 1980’s he suffered a serious of heart attacks.  He could still do the repair work, but he could not crawl around under dash boards.  Lucky for him, he had a son that could easily fit under the dash and I quickly learned the right way to get radios in and out of a car.

Dad would pay me $5 to take a radio out and re-install it after it was finished.  And a lot of customers would give me a tip.  I was rich!  And it was the beginning of my lifelong love of car audio.

Luck plays a part

Back in the very early 1990’s, my cousin Mark owned a bar in Lehighton called Slamers (pronounced “slammers”). Myself, my other cousins, and some friends DJ’d there every weekend. There was the Maverick, Betty B., Bam Bam, The Ayatollah of Rock and Rollah (RIP) and The Iceman (that was me, don’t ask why.)

In 1992, Mark was rebuilding his DJ booth and I was helping out. We needed an XLR extension cable and the closest place that we knew we could find one was in Allentown. Mark mentioned that an electronics shop on 2nd street in Lehighton had just gone out of business. We knocked on the door and the owner answered. He told us that if we could find the cable, we could have it…

Mark and I walked into the basement and found the cable we needed for the DJ booth. On the way out of the basement, we saw a HUGE pile of car audio equipment…. Alpine, Infinity, Impact, QForms… There was a little bit of everything. Looking back, it was at that moment that Mobile Edge was born.

I asked the owner if he was willing to sell it as a lot and he said that I should make an offer. I took an inventory and I spent a few days figuring out what it was worth. I made the offer and he accepted it. The excess inventory was now mine.

Mitch and Carl

My father and I before attending the Panasonic dealer show in Philadelphia during the Spring of 1993

Proof of concept

I placed a classified ad in the Times News and before you knew it, people were calling me to buy my inventory. I sold the products out of my parent’s basement and I installed it in their garage.  I sold the last piece of inventory on January 16, 1993, 1 day before my 22nd birthday. I knew there was a market.

Over the next few months, I spent my time looking for ways to buy inventory for my business. It was hard, but a couple of manufacturers and distributors decided to work with me. I continued my “day” job at the Times News during the day an installed car stereos at night. I was exhausted, but building the foundation for my business.

Persistance pays off

In April of 1994. I went to get a sandwich at the new Subway shop on Blakeslee Blvd. (Rt 443) in Lehighton. I saw a “For Rent” sign in the window near the gas station. I made a call and the next day my father and I met with a man named Pete Blynn. Pete was the property manager for the landlord. Looking back, Pete believed in me and my vision for my business. He made me an offer that I couldn’t refuse. But even with this great deal, I didn’t have enough money. Not even close.

I did what anyone with a dream and no money does: I asked for help. My mother Jean, my aunt Jeanette, and my uncle Dave allowed me to use a piece of land that was in our family as collateral for a loan. I thought the rest would be easy. I’d go to a bank and they would certainly loan me the money I needed. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I went to 11 banks. I got rejected 11 times. 1 banker laughed at me (true story). They all said that loaning money to a 23-year-old with no business experience wanting to start a car stereo shop was too risky. My dad mentioned that many years ago, when he needed help, Mauch Chunk Trust Company had helped him. So I made an appointment and met with Melva McArdle.

Newspaper Ad

This was my first ever newspaper ad in the Morning Call announcing the grand opening.

Melva was the commercial loan officer at MCTC. She took me seriously, but boy was she tough! She made me prove that I was a good risk. Projections, business plans, market research, inventory analysis… When it was all said and done, I had nearly 100 pages of documentation. In the end, my loan was approved and with $30,000, Schaffer’s Safe and Sound was in business.

Summer of ’94

Part of my deal with my landlord required that I take over a struggling gas station, Boulevard Texaco, which I did on June 6, 1994. That Summer was tough! For almost 3 months straight, I worked 18+ hour days. With the help of my cousin Mark, we built the displays for Schaffer’s Safe & Sound and on September 6, 1994 Schaffer’s Safe & Sound, opened its doors…

The story continues in Part 2

Adding bass response to a factory installed audio system, including those “premium” systems, is a request we get from many of our clients. A lot of the time, these clients aren’t interested in altering the look of their dash or changing how the audio system works in their vehicle. The part that matters to them and the reason that they come to us is the sound. That was exactly the case a client from Parryvile when they stopped at our facility with their 2010 Mazda 6. We spent a lot of time with them going over options, they made their choices, and we set up an installation appointment.

Factory Radio is Basis For Mazda 6 Audio Upgrade

Once we got into the vehicle, the first order of business was finding the signal wires from the factory system and verifying the output from these wires. From there we used a high quality line level converter to send the maximum undistorted signal back to the amplifier. Many times, as the volume is increased in a factory system, the factory equalizer will actually dial down the bass output. This is not the same bass control the user has access to in the radio menu. It is intended to preserve the factory speakers that could be damaged at higher volumes when the bass is cranked. While this idea makes sense in a factory system, it could really cause havoc in an aftermarket set up. Imagine every time you turn up the music, the subwoofers get quieter. The interface we used has circuitry that will level out the bass response where the factory system rolls off. This doesn’t affect the factory speakers, only the signal for the new subwoofers. As an added bonus, there is also a remote volume control for the new sub system so their output can be adjusted independent of the factory speakers, allowing the user to set just the right amount of bass output according to what they are listening to and personal tastes. The amplifier and a voltage stabilizing capacitor were installed on the trunk side of the rear fold down seat and a pair of Memphis Audio 12″ sub woofers finished off this installation. With everything connected and tuned, it sounded like a whole new car.

This is one of the many things that we specialize in at Mobile Edge.  We know that many clients want to keep their dash looking stock and we completely agree with this train of thought!  If you are happy with your factory radio and the features it gives you but not the sound it puts out, look no further than Mobile Edge in Lehighton, PA.  Give us a call or Contact Us today.  Better yet, stop in and allow us to give you a tour of our facility.

This Andreas client was looking to add some bass and update the radio in the dash of her Dodge Caliber. She also wanted a quality installation. At Mobile Edge, we work to a higher standard. Not every installation is a huge custom build. However, our philosophy is that proper wire management and mounting shouldn’t be reserved for just those jobs. In fact, every job we do gets the same care and attention to detail.  That was certainly the case with this Dodge Caliber audio upgrade as you can see in the photos above.

Isn’t it reassuring knowing that the same MECP certified technicians that do the custom builds are the technicians that will be taking care of your vehicle, no matter the scope of the job?  If you are in the market for an audio upgrade for your vehicle, we would encourage you to give us an opportunity to earn your business.  Give us a call or Contact Us, or better yet, stop in and allow us to give you a tour of our facility.

Ford Explorer Remote Starter

This Philadelphia remote starter client came to us with a 2006 Ford Explorer.  This client came from over 75 miles away to have Mobile Edge install his remote car starter.  Many of our clients come from far away because we are known for the quality of our remote car starter installations.  All of the convenience features on the factory remote were moved over to the new aftermarket remote giving the client the ability to now carry one remote that will control the factory door locks, alarm, rear hatch and even the “panic” car finder feature. Even better, these features now have the same extended range of the aftermarket remote starter system.

If you are in the Philadelphia area and would like to have a remote car starter installed in your vehicle, consider making the drive to Mobile Edge in Lehighton, PA.  We have the skill, experience, tools and products to do the job right the first time.  Give us a call or Contact Us to learn more about what we have to offer.  Better yet, why not stop in and allow us to show you around our facility.  We think you will like what you see!

This Mustang owner from Bath wanted to update his ride. His main concern was adding Bluetooth for hands free phone conversations but equally important was keeping a clean, factory look to the dash. After speaking with the client and going over a few options we decided the best choice for this Mustang Bluetooth upgrade was to replace the existing radio with a new touch panel radio from JVC. This unit gave him a large display and buttons, making it breeze to use. After our certified technicians made sure that the fit and finish was perfect and the integration to the factory amplified stereo system sounded great, we set the clock, re-entered the client’s radio presets, and we even matched the new radio’s button illumination to the rest of the factory dash lights a gauges.

If this sounds like the kind of shop you would like to work on your vehicle, we urge you to give us a call or Contact Us today.  Or better yet, stop in so we can show you around.

Mitsubishi Evo Remote starterThis client from New Tripoli was so happy with the work we did in his vehicle, that he came back to get a remote starter for his wife’s 2010 Mitsubishi Evo. We installed an LED 2-way 1 button remote starter with our 4X range. She also wanted EZ Go, which will automatically unlock the doors when approaching the car and lock the doors as she walks away from it. Best of all, we added a Drone Mobile to the remote starter. This allows it to be controlled by an app on her smartphone. She can now start, stop, lock or unlock her car right from her phone. Because the Drone works through a network, she now has almost unlimited range. It will even send her an alert if her car is broken into, and gives her the ability to track it if stolen.

We love this technology!  In fact, we use it everyday ourselves! Stop in to see the EZ Go and Drone Mobile in one of our demo cars.

Everything From Remote Starter and Tint To a Full Blown Audio System, This Scion Got The Works

Demo Vehicles

We have a state of the art showroom, install bay and fabrication facility.  But we didn’t have demo vehicles to show our work in real world circumstances.  That all changed recently when we bought 2 new vehicle for the store: A 2013 Scion IQ and a 2013 Infiniti G37X.  Along with Bob’s daily driver, a 2008 Subaru Outback Sport, we now have a stable of vehicles what will showcase what we do.  The first project was the Scion IQ……

Audison BitTen D Is Centerpiece Of Audio System

BitTen D Mounting Bracket BitTen D

The audio overhaul began by re-wiring the factory front door speakers to the rear audio outputs on the stock radio. These speakers are not part of the aftermarket system but we thought it would be cool to be able to fade between the front and rear to show a “real world” difference between a stock system and an aftermarket system.  It makes for quite an effective comparison.

The front audio outputs were then run to an Audison Bit Ten D signal processor. This little processor packs a mean punch when it comes to cleaning up an audio signal. From time correction to a full digital equalizer for each channel of output the Bit series processors are a staple in high-end systems. The compact size of the main processing unit also provides for tons of installation flexibility. In the iQ, we used our metal fabrication shop to weld a steel bracket that attached under the rear seats using the factory seat bolts as mounting points. We finished off this phase of the installation with a beauty panel to conceal the wiring but show off the processor.

Hertz HDP5 Amplifier Supplies the Power

Amplifier Bracket Amplifier Bracket Hertz HDP5 Amp Wire Management

From there the audio signal runs to a Hertz HDP5 five channel amplifier. Again we welded a similar bracket to secure the amplifier in the trunk area of the vehicle. The rack is also secured using the existing seat bolts and tucks nicely under the sub woofer enclosure. The 5 channel amp gave us great flexibility in wiring the speakers.  We went with a full “Active” setup. This means that each speaker has its own dedicated channel and the subs are powered by a single Mono channel.  The crossover points are set digitally in the Bit Ten and we did away with rear speakers entirely. With the fullness and richness of the front stage, the rear speakers won’t even be missed.

Hertz Slim Subs Provide The Bass

Scion IQ Hatch Hertz Slim Sub Scion IQ Hatch

Above the amplifier, in place of the factory trunk storage pocket, is a custom enclosure for a pair of rear firing 10 inch Hertz slim line subwoofers. For space reasons we went with a sealed enclosure but don’t let the small package throw you off!  These subs provide some serious bottom end to the system. We embossed the Mobile Edge logo into the top of the box and accented the trim panel with a grill material to tie the accent panels together.

Scion IQ Front Speaker Upgrades

Scion Kick Panel Modifications Scion Kick Panel Modifications Scion Kick Panel Modifications Scion Kick Panel Modifications
The front stage is set with a pair of 5.25 inch Hertz High Energy component speakers. The midrange and tweeters were nestled into custom fiberglass kick panels. Great care was taken to angle and place the speakers optimally for the drivers listening position while not to intrude into the foot room for the driver or front passenger. Additionally, on the driver side clearance for the pedals needed to be taken into account. The panels were texture coated to blend into the existing trim panels and the result is custom panels that appear stock.

Digital Remote Control (DRC)

Audison DRCThe Digital Remote Control module for the audio system is housed above the gear select on the center console. The controller is flush mounted into the pod, and the pod was matched to the custom kick pods to tie both aspects of the installation together. From the controller, audio adjustments can be made to the audio signal such as volume, balance, and sub woofer control. More fine tuning can be done via the USB port (located under the driver’s seat) by connecting a laptop PC and the Audison BitTune.

System Tuning: Important In Any System

BitTune Michael Oechsner BitTune

As with any system installed at Mobile Edge, the Scion IQ project was topped off with professional system tuning.  This is a step that is often overlooked by other shops.  Not here.  We realize that a great system can sound bad if it is not tuned properly.  We have all the tools and talent to tune any system.  In this case, we used the Audison BitTune along with our Oscilloscope, DVM and RTA.  By the time were done, the system sounded amazing!  Staging and imaging are stable and precise and overall sound quality is superb!  You need to hear it for yourself!

Remote Car Starter / Alarm Combo Installed

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALike every remote starter we install, EVERY connection is verified, tested and soldered. The modules are secured out-of-the-way to prevent them from interfering with any of the moving parts (pedals, steering components) that exist in and around the dash. Wires are loomed to protect them and give the installation a factory appearance. While aesthetics are always important, having a factory appearance is a functional part of the installation when it comes to an alarm and remote starter system. After all, what’s the point of a security system if the wiring can be easily identified and the system disabled by a potential thief?

In addition to the basic alarm and remote starter we added a few other convenience options. First, we added the Compustar Drone Mobile. This system allows us to remote start, arm and disarm the alarm, and even check the location and status of the vehicle. In the event the alarm is triggered, this system will alert the owner that the alarm was set off.  Forget to lock the doors? Keeping tabs on a new driver in the family? There’s an app for that. We also added the EZ-GO system that senses when the owner is near and unlocks the vehicle automatically. It will also re-lock and arm the system when the owner walks away. Beyond keyless entry, this is effortless entry. In the event we would need to access the vehicle and not have the keys a Compustar RPS touch system allows us to enter a code into the windshield mounted touch pad to gain entry to the vehicle. As an added bonus, the RPS system can also be used in conjunction with the Drone Mobile system as a vehicle pager. Simply touch the “page owner” and an SMS message will alert the owner that someone is waiting. We also tied in the vehicles single LED “dome light” to “illuminate” the interior of the vehicle upon remote unlock.

Not Complete Without Window Tint

Window Tint OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Beyond the electronics we also applied Carbon window film (18%) everywhere but the windshield. We went with the Carbon film mainly because of the electronics in the vehicle, both factory and aftermarket. Non-metallic films (Carbon and CXP) do not interfere with electronics as their metallic counterparts have been known to do. Tinted and tuned this system is ready to impress. If you’re in the market for a better audio solution for your car or just in the area, feel free to stop in and we will be happy to show you around and let you hear how car audio should sound.

Recently, we had a client drive all the way from Baltimore, MD for the full Mobile Edge experience. After hearing all we have to offer, he decided we were the perfect shop to install a 2-way remote starter in his 2012 Kia Rio with push to start. The LED key fob allows him to be confident that his car has successfully started. While we were working on his car we offered him the perfect way to relax after the long drive. We hooked him up with a great deal from Enterprise for a rental car. They picked him up at our door, and he was off to check out our neighboring town of Jim Thorpe. He checked out some of the many historic sites, took in the beautiful mountain scenery, and visited the one of a kind shops. We got him a special deal on a room too. He spent the night at The Inn at Jim Thorpe where he was  able to relax knowing his car was in the very capable hands of our MECP certified installers. In the morning he dropped of the rental, told us all about the wonderful time he had in Jim Thorpe, and was off on his way home to Baltimore.

(Note: Before posting this, I showed a draft to other small business owners.  The resounding response was: DON’T POST IT!  So I sat on it for a day.  It didn’t change my thoughts.  We want to be open.   Our site is about showing what we do and how we do it at Mobile Edge.  I’m proud of my store and my guys. They are true professionals and like all of us, make a mistake from time to time. We can’t show you all the great things we do if we are going to sweep the mistakes under the carpet.)

Steve from New Jersey called us a few months back. He owns a 2011 BMW 550i XDrive and had just read a post on our site announcing that we now install remote starters in many BMWs.  He told us how much he loved our site and even bought the e-book I wrote about remote car starters. After spending some time on the phone with us he said that we were the only shop he wanted to do the installation.

We gave Steve an estimated price and he left a deposit via credit card. We ordered the parts and blocked off the appointment. On Wednesday morning, he made the 90 minute drive to get to our store. We had Enterprise Rent-A-Car waiting for him and he was soon on his way back to New Jersey. This particular morning, our area was hit with freezing rain so the drive was less than desirable.

When we pulled the vehicle into the bay and prepped it for the installation, we noticed that the 2011 BMW 550i xDrive was not on the list of vehicles that are supported by the device we ordered. Concerned, we went to our database and discovered that the 2011 BMW 550i XDrive is not supported at all. No method or device that meets our standards is available which would allow us to install a remote starter in this vehicle.

It turns out that we made a sort of Freudian slip. When researching this project and ordering the parts, we typed in 2011 BMW X5. Probably the “XDrive” in the model had something to do this the slip-up.  We take our time and we don’t make mistakes like this one.  But there is a first time for everything and, in this case, that first time happened to a client from 100 miles away.

We were truly devastated.  Myself and my guys were literally sick to our stomach about the situation. We get many clients from hundreds of miles away and we know just how important it is to manage these projects. We had an impromptu staff meeting to decide what needed to be done.

It turned out to be a short discussion. There was only one thing to do. We called the client and explained that we had completely dropped the ball. No excuses. We were careless. We let him down and wasted his valuable time. Bob volunteered to bring the vehicle back to his home in New Jersey. We offered to do whatever else we needed to happen to make the situation right. Thankfully, this client was very understanding. In his words “mistakes happen!” WOW…

Bob drove the vehicle back to New Jersey, filled it up with gas and delivered it to the client’s front door. Steve was, of all things, grateful! He thanked Bob for bringing the vehicle back and complimented us on our professionalism. When Bob got in the rental car to come back home, he found an envelope with his name on it. Inside were two $50 bills, 1 for Bob and 1 for Mike. On Bob’s was a sticky note that says “Bob, This too shall pass – It’s OK!, Steve.”

steveThis started out as a textbook example of how to attract a client through what I call “Branding yourself as the expert.” When you brand yourself as the expert, you have an obligation to live up to that. In nearly every case, we do. In this case we failed.

Of course we refunded Steve’s deposit, paid for his rental and tolls and a full tank of gas.  This situation cost us some money, a full day of shop time and a big hit to our ego and pride. From experience, I’ve learned that bad situations, when treated the right way, can usually turn into a valuable lesson. When I arrived at the shop today, I saw Steve’s sticky note behind the counter at one of our computer terminals.  Going forward, this note will remind us to take an extra minute to be sure everything is in order and done properly, and that we are fortunate that we get to deal with good people…. Even when we make a mistake.

It doesn’t always have to be about amazing audio systems here at Mobile Edge. This Lehighton client really wanted to fit their 2004 Kia Sorento with a back up assistance camera and monitor. That said, they had no interest in replacing the factory installed radio or modifying the vehicle to mount an external display.

We were happy to go over the options and our client was thrilled to find out they could have their cake and eat it to. We added a camera on the rear lift gate with a bracket that used the existing mounting locations for the license plate. The video feed and power were routed into the vehicle through the factory wire boots and up to the windshield rear view mirror location.

The factory mirror was unbolted and replaced with an aftermarket mirror that housed the display for the camera. The monitor is concealed behind a two-way mirror until the vehicle is placed in reverse. At that time the back up system automatically switches on the monitor and displays a clear view behind the vehicle. These types of systems are not just convenient, they help to keep your vehicle and your loved ones safe. Another way Mobile Edge helps you move forward, even in reverse!

Vehicle interiors are getting more spacious and comfy. The irony is, as vehicles get larger and have more cabin space, there is seemingly less and less room to hide anything aftermarket out of sight.  As custom auto sound leans more towards keeping the stock appearance of a vehicle, it takes the ever evolving creativity of a professional mobile electronics installer to finesse high-end sound into a pre-packaged shell. Take this 2005 Hummer H2 SUT for example. With our new custom fabrication shop in place, Mobile Edge’s own Advanced Certified Installer, Michael Oechsner, was up to the challenge of filling the interior with sound without filling the interior with “stuff”.

Hummer Audio System Signal Path Testing and Planning

We started the process by first locating the factory Bose amplifier under the center console. After determining the inputs and outputs of the factory amp we used an RTA and an oscilloscope to figure out exactly how the audio signal was split up in the factory system and where the best place to interface would be. The signal in this Hummer audio system was full range on both the front and rear outputs but was heavily equalized to compensate for the short comings of the factory speakers. The practice of using lower quality speakers and “doping” the signal at the amplifier is one way that OEM manufactures save on the cost of the factory system. However, as with everything else, robbing Peter to pay Paul will eventually catch up to you and these types of systems always seem to be lacking somewhere. No highs, No lows….. must be #@$E…. Did we say that?

An Audiocontrol LCQ-1 was installed after the factory Bose amplifier. The separate front rear and sub EQ on this high quality  interface will do just the trick to balance out the signal before it gets to the new five channel Hertz Audio HDP5 amplifier. Don’t be fooled by the little chassis. This amp packs a punch and sounds amazing. The small foot print of both of these components allowed us to install the  inside the center console without taking any of the armrest storage or any other usable space. To do this, Mike welded up a steel amp rack to house the EQ and Amp and bolted the assembly in place of the Bose Subwoofer.  Our Hummer audio system upgrade was taking shape!

Bye-Bye Bose… Hello Hertz!

Next up was a full speaker upgrade. The rear 5.25” speakers were replaced with a 6.5” Hertz High Energy series coaxial speaker. Hushmat was applied on the outside door skin and around the new speaker to damp the metal doors.  Hushmat Silencer was applied to the inner plastic door panels to eliminate rattles, and absorb wind and road noise.  This approach significantly improves the noise floor and the system’s overall sound.  In our opinion, proper sound control is a must in ANY good system.

The front speaker were upgraded to a Hertz HSK165 XL series component set. The tweeters installed in the factory Hummer A-pillar locations and the mid bass drivers replaced the factory mids in the doors. The expansive front doors were also blanketed in Hushmat and Silencer.

Great Bass With No Loss of Space!

Our custom Hummer audio system would not be complete without great bass so, after the speakers were checked out and the doors put back together, it was back into the fabrication shop.  This time to design and build a custom enclosure for a ten inch Hertz Audio Energy series slim-line sub. It would be a tight fit but with a little math, a lot of measuring, some table saw skills, a little carpet and… Presto! A custom box that fit perfectly under the rear seat and filled the truck with an impressive amount of bass. To finish off the installation and highlight the subwoofer, a custom H2 logo was designed and frosted into a plexiglass panel.

Once the system was tuned and the truck was prepped for delivery it was time once again to call the client to “come on down”. As much as we enjoy the installation process, from design to finished product, the best part has to be the “reveal”. That grin that turns into a smile that turns in to a head-nod…. that’s the good stuff!

When you’re ready to upgrade the audio system in your Hummer, or whatever else you drive, we’re ready to show you how good it can be.  Give us a call to schedule your no-cost consultation.  We will take the time to discuss your tastes and learn what you really want.  We have the equipment in our showroom and on display so you can hear it for yourself.  In addition, we will take you on “the Tour” and show you around our installation and fabrication facility.  We believe that you will like what you hear and see!

We hope to see you soon!

Volkswagen

VW LOGOThere has been much debate on the interwebs about whether or not a remote car starter can be installed on a Volkswagen vehicle.  Some folks say yes and others say no.   So, what is all the confusion about? The real question when it comes to installing a remote car starter in a Volkswagen, or any vehicle for that matter isn’t “can it be done” but “can it be done RELIABLY.” Mobile Edge clients have come to expect that when we install something in their vehicle, it just works. That’s a standard we strive to maintain.  Until recently there have not been any solutions that reliably integrate a remote car starter into the complex electronic systems found in Volkswagen vehicles.

A Reliable Volkswagen Remote Car Starter Solution

Volkswagen Remote Car StarterThat being the case, Mobile Edge and many reputable shops throughout the country have stayed away from installing remote starting systems into Volkswagen and many other European vehicles. That has all changed because of recent advancements in remote starter interface technology.  We now are able to offer Volkswagen remote car starter installations and confidently tell our clients that they will stand the test of time.

When we got a call from an Allentown client asking about a remote starter for his 2013 Volkswagen Jetta TDI, we had a solution. Along with the traditional remote starter, we added the convenience of automatic keyless entry called EZ-GO. When the owner approaches the vehicles the doors automatically unlock without any interaction from the client. The system also locks the doors when he exits. In addition to all this, the entire system can be controlled from anywhere in the world with the DroneMobile app on the owner’s smartphone.

So if you have a Volkswagen vehicle and you want to add a remote car starter to it, look no further than Mobile Edge.  Stop by our shop and we will go over the various options available for your vehicle.  And while you are here we will give you a tour of our state of the art showroom and installation facility.  We have people drive hundreds of miles for our remote starter installations and now we are happy to be able to accommodate those clients with Volkswagens!

*Installation available on most VW models.

DroneMobileAs the owner of a technology store, I’m the stereotypical gadget geek. I love toys, get excited with new tech, and I’m an early adopter. I start to panic if my iPhone is at 10% battery life. So it is surprising that I have spent the past 3 years without an incredibly cool device that marries my digital world with the products I sell: DroneMobile from Compustar.

I have no explanation why I didn’t have this in my own car. It’s not expensive. We have sold many to clients.  On the surface, it looks extremely cool and geek chic. Perhaps we just never took the time to install it in my previous vehicle. But that all changed about 2 weeks ago.

Mobile Edge Demo Vehicles

Recently we leased 2 vehicles to be used for demonstration purposes at Mobile Edge. A 2013 Infiniti G37X and a 2013 Scion IQ. Since I’m the owner, I got to pick which one I wanted and I picked the Infiniti. Since it’s getting cold, the first thing we did was outfit both vehicles with complete remote car starter systems from Compustar.

2W1BR-SPNew Vehicle Outfitted With New Toys

In the Infiniti, we installed the brand new 2-way 1-button “Slice” remote package. This offers a small remote and ease of use plus 2 way notification so I can quickly tell that my vehicle is started. We added EZ-Go which is awesome and very useful. EZ-Go senses when you are approaching your vehicle and unlocks your doors and it knows when you walk away and locks them. The entire process is completely hands-free (we will do a future post on EZ-Go).

DroneMobile Steals The Show

But the absolute star of the system is DroneMobile. How did I not have this before?!?! DroneMobile is essentially a gateway device that allows my smart phone to control my remote starter.. And much more. I use an iPhone but it works equally well on Android.  When installed with my Compustar remote starter, I can start, stop, lock, unlock, and pop the trunk of my vehicle right from my smartphone… We also incorporated the ability to roll up and roll down the windows (Other optional features are available and are vehicle dependent).

More Than Just Control

DroneMobile doesn’t stop there. It incorporates complete GPS tracking so I can know exactly where my vehicle is at any time. In the event the vehicle is stolen, I can open the app and direct the authorities to it’s precise location. In addition, it offers complete suite of services:

  • Speed limit alert – Sends a text if the vehicle exceeds a pre-set speed (great for new drivers!)
  • Curfew Violations – Notifies user if the vehicle is in use after a pre-set time
  • Geofence – Notifies user if vehicle leaves a pre-set geographic area
  • Low Battery Alert – Send notification if vehicle battery drops below 12V
  • Maintenance Reminder – Get notifications for routine vehicle maintenance
  • Multiple Vehicle Control – Control all of your vehicles from 1 app
  • And more

DroneMobile requires an annual subscription starting at $49.99/year (first year free).

Real World Use Of DroneMobile

DroneMobile App DroneMobile Status DroneMobile Map

So how have I put this to use so far? I recently spent a few days in San Diego at a JVC dealer conference. When I fly out of Philadelphia, I park in an airport lot with shuttle service. When my OCD kicked in at the airport and I was convinced that I had forgotten to lock the doors, I simply opened the app and tapped the “Lock” button. A few seconds later I got a confirmation that my vehicle was indeed locked. Whew.. Time to relax….

While in San Diego I started thinking that I just MIGHT have left a dome light on. It would suck to return to a dead battery. Wait. I have Drone! I opened the app, pressed the “Status” button and behold: 12.5 volts on my battery. Another OCD disaster averted.

Returning from the airport was fun. I picked up my bags and got in the parking shuttle. As soon as I got in I opened the DroneMobile App and tapped “Start”. As we approached the lot, the driver asked me where I was parked. I told him to look for the only car that was running! Sure enough, my vehicle was not only running, but toasty warm inside.

The day after I returned, my fiancé and I went to dinner and shopping at the Lehigh Valley Mall. We parked near the second best store in the world: the Apple Store (Mobile Edge being the best of course!) After dinner we walked around the mall.  While at the very opposite end of the mall I started the vehicle with DroneMobile. 10 minutes later we got into a warm car ready to roll.

In Conclusion

I’ve only had DroneMobile for about 2 weeks and I’m already hooked. I can’t believe that I didn’t install this in my last vehicle! What was I thinking? Apparently I wasn’t thinking at all.  DroneMobile is much more than just a gadget. It is an excellent add-on to any Compustar remote starter. It is a solid piece of technology that is useful, functional and works when it should. And it is now more affordable than ever.

We have several vehicles equipped with remote starters and 2 of them have fully functional DroneMobile units. We can give you a complete demonstration here at our facility anytime during normal business hours. Please stop in and let us show you what DroneMobile and Mobile Edge are all about.

A Bit of History

Four years ago in early November, Mobile Edge ran its first Coats For Kids drive. We made arrangements to have any coats distributed locally in Carbon and neighboring counties. We had hoped to collect a few dozen coats. Were we in for a surprise! By the end of January, we had collected close to 200 coats. We realized that we were on to something sweet! In 2010 we ran the promotion again and collected nearly 300,and in 2011 and 2012 we collected over 300! In addition, we collected dozens of beanies, scarves and gloves.

What Is Coats For Kids?

As the owner of Mobile Edge for nearly 20 years, I’ve always said that I’ve never once sold something that people actually need! Not one single time (lets face it, neither has Apple!). I sell products that people want…. things that make them happy and things that make life more comfortable and convenient. One of the truest examples of this is remote car starters.

We sell a lot of remote car starters! Good economy or bad economy… It doesn’t matter.  It stands to reason that if someone cares that much about staying warn, they must have some outdated children’s coats or know someone who does.

We decided to tie these things together. Bring us a new or gently used child’s coat and we will give you up to $50 off the cost of a new remote car starter! There is no catch. No hidden agenda. You have something that can help other people (coats). We have really great car starters that will keep you warm and comfortable and we have a means to distribute your coats to children who need them. Everybody wins! You save money and make some room in you closet. We get to make another happy customer and a child somewhere in our area will be warmer this Winter. Think about it… It make sense to me!

I Really Don’t Want A Remote Starter?

No problem. We will happily take all of your unwanted coats, beanies, gloves, and scarves. It might be 17 degrees out the day that you drop them off, but I promise you will leave our shop feeling all warm and fuzzy inside!

Help Us Reach Our Goal!

Our goal this year is a lofty one. We want to collect 500 coats. Plain and simple. So if you are reading this and in Carbon or surrounding counties, why not share this on your Twitter feed or Facebook wall. We’re making it simple for you to make a difference in local children’s lives. Spread the word!

Making a Difference Across the Nation

One of the really exciting things that has happened as a result of our Coats For Kids campaign is the fact that other shops throughout the country have run similar promos in their markets. What was created here in Lehighton PA a few years back is keeping kids warm in cities and town all over the US!  Shops from Indiana, Virginia, Arizona, Maryland and California (to mention a few) have contacted us for support on running their own local campaigns.

Ford Focus Radio Replacement

This Lehighton client had kind of the “perfect storm” problem with his Ford Focus radio. Not only was the factory radio not working but, when we looked over the car, we also found that the factory powered antenna was also broken. Once we saw what was going on we ordered the appropriate antenna and scheduled the work. On the day of the installation, it was smooth sailing. The radio was installed and the antenna was replaced with out an issue.

This job is the perfect example of why we look at every vehicle before we schedule the job. We know the radio and speaker sizes and what parts are needed to install a new radio in a Ford Focus (and a lot of other vehicles too). What we would have had no way of knowing was that the antenna was also broken. Without seeing the vehicle we could have set up the installation and done the work only to find out that the radio was still not receiving AM and FM. That would be frustrating not only for us, but also the client who was expecting to have a working radio when he picked up his car. At Mobile Edge, we take the time not to waste your time. Stop in and find out why we’ve been trusted to do the job right since 1994.

The STi is known for it’s all weather performance. At, Mobile Edge we are renowned for our remote car starters and installation. That being said, it was a match made in heaven for our Slatington client. At this point, a lot of people reading this are probably thinking the same thing: “The STi has a manual transmission and you can’t have a remote start installed in a manual transmission vehicle.” The fact is this; a remote car starter can be safely installed in a manual or automatic transmission vehicle.

At Mobile Edge vehicle integrity and safety are a primary concern on EVERY installation. To this point every remote starter we install includes a safety switch that prevents the vehicle from starting if the vehicles hood is open. In the case of a manual transmission vehicle, like the 2004 Subaru STi, with the proper unit and installation practices, a remote car start can be installed. Not only installed, but convenient and easy to use. By monitoring the gear position and points of entry manual transmission systems will only initiate the remote starting sequence when the vehicle can be started safely. Some shops may tell you it can’t be done, but then some shops also cut corners. If you have questions on how this or any remote car starter will work in your vehicle stop in or give us a call. You’ll be glad you did.
