Why do we need to see your vehicle to quote a remote car starter install?
This time of the year, we get a TON of calls every day (sometimes more than 50 a day) about remote car starters. The vast majority of them want to know what we charge. For 90% of the vehicles out there, this is an impossible question to answer. Let me explain why.
Todays vehicles are tremendously complicated. Passlock, Pats, transponders, theft systems, multiple ignition circuits, isolated starter circuits, multiplexed doorlocks, rf only factory alarms, drivers door control door locking systems….. the list is endless. As a professional shop, we need the answers to all of these questions in order to fairly and accurately quote your starter install.
“Well I just want a ballpark price” the customer says to us dozens of times a day. Here is the problem with that: Park two 2007 Chevy Traiblazers next to each other. Depending on how they are equipped, one may cost as little as $299 and the other could be $549. So, we give a ballpark of $299. You come to our store and we find that it is going to be $549 instead…. Now Mobile Edge and the people that work there appear to be liars and thieves in the eyes of the customer! We did not survive in this business for nearly 15 years lying and stealing!
We realize that other stores may give you a price over the phone. As the owner of Mobile Edge, I can tell you with 100% confidence that these stores are low balling you in order to get you to show up. That is not how we do business. Never has been. I would rather lose a customer’s business than be labeled as a “bait and switch” liar or thief.
So what do you do if you want to buy a remote starter as a gift for a friend or family member? Come in to our store with as much information as possible. We will take the information that you supply and compare it to our computerized database. We will go over all of the remote starter options and give you a “best and worst” case scenario. It is our version of a “good faith estimate.”
At Mobile Edge we pride ourselves on the quality of our remote starter installations. We are not the cheapest, but do you really want to trust your vehicles electrical and ignition system to the lowest bidder?
We hope to see you soon!
