One of my sales reps, Steve Signorello, emailed me an interesting article this morning. It was recently posted in Twice Magazine, an industry trade. It seems that, with the economy the way it is, many vehicle manufacturers are going back to offering a “radio delete” option. This was a very normal thing 15 years ago, but almost unheard of today. They are doing this in an effort to lower vehicle prices.
Consumers should take note that this “option” could end up saving them a lot of money and allow them to get much better equipment in their cars. In most if not all cases, an aftermarket radio will cost a lot less than the factory. Quality will also be a lot better. Most aftermarket radio also offer a great deal more flexibility in what you can hook up to them: HD Radio, Satellite Radio, iPod interface, Bluetooth handsfree, backup cameras and more.
So if you are looking for a new vehicle and you have an option of deleteing the factory radio, give it some serious thought. You local mobile electronics store can likely install a much better and more flexible sound system for less money. Keep it in mind!
