If you’ve been in the car audio industry for as long as we have, then Sony’s Mobile ES line isn’t something new. In 2021, Sony reintroduced its series of premium products to deliver improved performance to discerning car audio enthusiasts. ES stands for Elevated Standard, and it’s a worthwhile moniker for the effort Sony has put into developing these solutions for car audio enthusiasts. Mobile Edge is honored to have been chosen to represent the Mobile ES line in our area.
Sony Mobile ES Speakers
The high-performance speakers Sony introduced with the launch of Mobile ES.
Designing a car audio speaker is a balancing act. A great speaker offers smooth frequency response, low-distortion performance and reliability at high volume levels. When the Sony product team decided to raise the bar, these criteria were at the top of the list. Sony’s Mobile ES speakers are based on a mica-reinforced aramid fiber woofer cone. This proprietary mixture helps control unwanted resonance while delivering rigidity and the right mass for great bass response. The woofer cones are attached to five-spoke anti-resonant baskets with Sony’s separated notch edge surrounds. This proprietary design helps to reduce surround resonance for clearer sound reproduction.
The motor assembly on Mobile ES speakers features a large aluminum shorting ring that reduces unwanted inductive characteristics to dramatically improve midrange clarity. In addition, the baskets feature integrated venting under the spider and around the magnet called the Dynamic Air Diffuser. This design improves linearity and helps hot air escape from around the voice coil.
All the woofers are mated to large-diameter soft-dome tweeters with low crossover frequencies. The result is speakers that can sound great, offer smooth sound distribution and handle impressive power levels hour after hour.
The current Mobile ES speaker offerings include a 6.5-inch component set and 6.5-inch, 6×8-inch and 6×9-inch coaxial solutions.
Sony also offers a 10-inch high-performance subwoofer with the same cone, surround, cooling and basket features as its speakers. The driver works well in sealed or vented enclosures and delivers clean, controlled bass with impressive low-frequency extension.
Sony Mobile ES Source Unit
With support for high-resolution audio playback, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration and a massive floating 10.1-inch display, the XAV-AX9500ES is hard to beat.
Any high-quality audio system needs to start with a high-performance source unit. The Sony team didn’t pull any punches when designing its first Mobile ES source unit. Equipped with state-of-the-art digital signal processing and high-performance digital-to-analog converters, the amazing XAV-AX9500ES offers incredible system configuration flexibility and superb sound quality. This radio is one of the few on the market that supports playback of high-resolution FLAC, ALAC, WAV, DSF and DSD audio with effective 192 kHz, 24-bit detail and accuracy. If you have a high-resolution portable music player, the LDAC codec is supported over Bluetooth for impressive wireless streaming sound quality.
A great source unit has to look great, too! Sony leads the industry with its sleek, gapless, anti-glare capacitive touchscreen designs. With a massive floating 10.1-inch display and four-way adjustability, upgrading your vehicle with amazing sound is easy.
Sony hasn’t forgotten about smartphone connectivity. The XAV-AX9500ES includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These integrated voice recognition systems allow you to make phone calls, send text messages or choose from dozens of entertainment options using simple verbal requests. Best of all, the systems use a Wi-Fi connection so that you can keep your phone in your pocket or purse.
The XAV-AX9500ES is compatible with the iDatalink Maestro RR and RR2 radio replacement interface, so you can see gauges, climate control information and much more data from the vehicle, right on the massive touchscreen.
